Phonemes are the building blocks of
language. Represented by letters of the alphabet, they are the basic
sounds of spoken words. An example is that most people automatically
hear that the word "boat" is made up of three different
sounds: "buh", "oh", and "tuh."
Reading requires that a student decodes
or recognizes these phonemes as words (phonics). An easy task? Let's
