The Family Center serves organizations and programs that
work with families of children and youth with disabilities.

Job Accommodation Network (JAN)
Jan was established in 1983 by the President's Committee
on Employment of Persons with Disabilities, and information
and consulting service which provides solutions to educators,
employers, and individuals with disabilities. JAN is staffed
by consultants who are specialists in functional limitations
and whose expertise is available free of charge.

Michigan Service for the Blind
and Physically Handicapped (SBPH)
This free service for people with visual and physical handicaps
offers best-sellers, mysteries, westerns, biographies, how-to
books, and other types of materials found in a public library.
The only difference is that the books are recorded on cassette
or printed in Braille and will arrive at your door through
the regular U.S. postal service. Just like standard print
books, these publications are unabridged (not condensed)
and contain all of the information found in the print version
- right down to the book jacket. There is not even a charge

National Assistive Technology
Research Institute (NATRI)
The NATRI conducts research related to the planning, development,
implementation, and evaluation of assistive technology (AT)
services in schools. NATRI works to identify promising practices
in the delivery of AT services and to disseminate research
findings and information about promising practices. The

Rehabilitation Engineering
and Assistive Technology Society of North America(RESNA)
An interdisciplinary association for the advancement of
rehabilitation and assistive technologies, RESNA is an organization
for rehabilitation professionals. It is concerned with transferring
science, engineering, and technology to the needs of persons
with disabilities. It is dedicated to improving the potential
of people with disabilities to achieve their goals through
the use of technology RESNA is currently operating a Technical
Assistance Project, which can help callers identify the
program in their state that is responsible for providing
information, training, and technical assistance on assistive
technology to individuals with disabilities. Services include

Georgia Tools for Life
This a federally-funded Technology Act project in Georgia
that can be contacted for a useful free publication. It
names assistive technology products, vendors, and product
price ranges. The initial contact is through one of Georgia's
five Tools for Life Assistive Technology Resource Centers
(ATRCs). Services include consumer intake, assistive technology
scholarships, hands-on assistive technology training through
demonstrations and educational workshops, Touch the Future
Expo, and the Microsoft Life Long Learning lab.

Trace R&D Center
The Trace Center was formed in 1971 to address the communication
problems faced by non-vocal children and adults with severe
disabilities. The Center is primarily concerned with research
and development in the areas of universal design of electronic
and next generation technologies, in order to make accessible
computers at the manufacturers' level. The Center does not
manufacture or distribute equipment, but will make referrals
to specific sources of information regarding equipment,
software, service centers, related professionals, and other
information networks. All information is available in alternative
formats for individuals unable to read or handle print materials.
