From handouts to interactive games for students, the Internet can provide opportunities for students to build their writing skills and to master the fine points of grammar. It is recommended that teachers review each site to determine whether or not the site meets the needs of the particular learning environment. The area of social studies
provides students with the content knowledge, intellectual skills,
and civic values necessary for fulfilling the duties of citizenship
in a participatory democracy. The National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) defines social
studies as "the integrated study of the social sciences
and humanities to promote civic competence." Many students
lack adequate content or background knowledge in the different
areas of social studies. The World Wide Web is an excellent
