As you work through the various web-based trainings, you may encounter either a document that you will need to open and print, or an opportunity to hear the text of the page as an audio file. While many computers have a built in audio program (Real Player), some still lack the proper plugins (additional programs to enhance a website). This tutorial will show you how to download and install the first of two additional programs that will assist you in making the most of the web-based trainings. Check back soon to learn how to download and install Real Player. You may want to print this page and any additional pages to use as a guide.

Downloading Adobe Acrobat Reader

You may have come across files on the Internet that are in a format called "PDF" (post data format). These files were at one time, a Microsoft Word document, an Excel spreadsheet, or other desktop publishing files. In an effort to maintain the look and feel of the files, Adobe has created a program that converts these documents into a consistent format called pdf. All the files in the web-based trainings will be in pdf format. Follow the instructions below to download and install the free plugin from Adobe's website. Remember to click the arrow in the top right-hand corner to proceed to the next page.

  1. Click on this button Click here to get the plugin to go to the Adobe website.
  2. In the middle of the main page will be a box that looks similar to this:
  1. Complete the information in the box as it pertains to YOUR computer system. In my example, I have a computer that uses Windows 98.

Proceed to the next page by clicking the in the upper right hand corner of this page.
